There are two ways you can volunteer your time to the SPCA: By working in the shelter and by participating in special events.
Working at the Shelter:
Currently, we have an ongoing need for assistance in the mornings with preopening shelter preparation. These activities are key to presenting our customers with a pleasant atmosphere in which to select their new pet as well as to the health and wellbeing of our animals. Duties include cleaning kennels and outside runs, cleaning cat rooms/cages, doing laundry, feeding and watering the animals.
If you are a student 16 years of age or over who needs Community Service hours for your school or the Honor Society, this is an excellent way to quickly accumulate them.
If you need information for COURT ORDERED community service hours, click here for details.
Before you can volunteer at the shelter, you must complete a Volunteer Application and a Volunteer Agreement and provide them to shelter management. This can be accomplished by downloading them thru the links below, completing them (either electronically or in writing), and e-mailing an electronic version to Volunteer@Fauquierspca.com or mailing them to or dropping them off at the shelter in Casanova. The shelter address is included on this website under the FAQ’s tab on the homepage.

Working Special Events:
The FSPCA organizes, or is represented at, many community events throughout the year. These events serve both to raise awareness of the services provided by the FSPCA as well as providing an opportunity to raise funds. Most, but not all, of these events occur on weekends. If you would like to participate, contact the Events Manager as detailed below.
The preferred method of communication to/from volunteers is e-mail. To contact the Event Manager, Debby Myers, please send an e-mail to dmyers@fauquierspca.com. Only if you don't have access to e-mail, leave a voice mail message at 540 788-9000 x 207. We appreciate your support and welcome your help!
For information concerning our Junior Volunteer program for 12 - 16 year olds or community service for a school, scout or youth group, please contact Debbie Myers via email at dmyers@fauquierspca.com or, again, if you don't have access to e-mail at 540 788-9000 x 207.

The Fauquier SPCA is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt organization.

Host parties for up to 15 children and the sponsoring parents. Arrive 15 minutes before party starting time to set up room and greet arriving guests. Organize the group to attend a humane education class (20 to 30 minute duration) presented by shelter staff.
After the class, take group on a brief tour through the shelter facility and back to the ‘party’ room. Participants will then have about 45 minutes for cake and gift giving.
Take an animal (puppy or kitten if available) into the party room for the last 15 minutes of the party and supervise play. Clear the room once the guests depart.

Partner with
another volunteer to staff our remote Adoption Station at the Warrenton Petco
on Sundays. Candidates will receive
training in the FSPCA adoption process prior to being deployed. Each Sunday one or both volunteers will
travel to the FSPCA Shelter in Casanova to pick up as many as four
cats/kittens, their files, cages, and supplies and transport them to the Petco. The volunteers will setup a display so the
public can view the cats. The
volunteer(s) will guide the customer through the adoption process to ensure
completeness and accuracy of all documents.
Once the process is completed, the customer will take immediate
possession of their new pet. Any cats
not adopted will be returned to the shelter prior to the 4PM closing time.
