FAQ's

1.)    I don't live in Fauquier County.  Can I still adopt from the Fauquier SPCA?

Yes.  The Fauquier SPCA does adopt out of county but there may be problems if you select a breed that requires a homecheck (e.g. Pit-bull, Rottweiler, Doberman, etc.)

2.)       I rent my home. Do you need verification from the landlord?

Yes. We will need a copy of your signed lease and the phone number of your landlord. The adoption will not be finalized until we have confirmation that the particular pet you have chosen is approved.

*This rule also applies for those young adults that live at home with Mom or Dad. We must have parental permission before the adoption is completed.

3.)       Are there adoption applications available online?

No. The Fauquier SPCA does not allow any “sight unseen” adoptions. All applications are available at the shelter, and can be completed upon visitation with the animal.

4.)       I am concerned about my current dog accepting a new dog. Can I bring my dog in to visit with the potential adoptee?

Absolutely! The Fauquier SPCA has a fully fenced paddock/agility course, which offers a safe and exciting environment for dogs to meet. Your animal must be on a leash, and our adoption counselors can provide a supervised introduction to get a feel for the dogs' compatibility. Please keep in mind that this is only an indication of whether the animals will get along, and animals often act differently in their own home environment. This does not apply for cats.

5.)       My pets need to get their annual vaccinations. Is this a service you provide?

Unfortunately not. While our adopted animals do receive their vaccinations, we do not provide this service to the public for their pets. We do offer a quarterly Rabies Clinic, where animals can receive their Rabies vaccination (and microchip if requested) at a reduced price. Please check the upcoming events on the website, or contact the shelter for the date of the next Rabies Clinic.

6.)       Is there a fee to redeem an animal?

If your animal has been running at large and brought into the shelter, we do charge $10 per day/ per animal upon release. However, if a lost report was filed with the shelter prior to the pet coming in, there would then be no charge to redeem the animal.

7.) Is there a fee to surrender an animal?

We do ask for a $30.00 donation if you are able.  This will assist us to continue to care for you pet in the shelter during the adoption evaluation process.  Unless previously adopted from the Fauquier SPCA, then only pets from owners residing in Fauquier County can be accepted for surrender.
